Brainpower (Gertjan Mulder) is one of the most decorated names in Dutch hip-hop, a triple-platinum MC known equally for chart-topping Nederhop and his boom bap purist side. Basket Bars - The New York Sessions is that purist project, cut with New York collaborators and steeped in classic East Coast sound. For this 10th-anniversary deluxe edition, released in late 2023, Brainpower went back into what he calls his own "Brainpower Vault" and pulled two previously unreleased tracks produced by Oh Jay, including "When Worlds Collide," featuring longtime friend DeeJay JayCee. Even the artwork plays into the concept, riffing on the poster for the 1982 cult film Basket Case as a nod to Brainpower's own restless, bars-in-tow years wandering the globe before and during the album's making.
