Run The Jewels grew out of the studio chemistry between Brooklyn producer/rapper El-P and Atlanta veteran Killer Mike after El-P produced Mike's acclaimed 2012 album R.A.P. Music. The pair liked working together so much they cut a whole album as equals, releasing it free online in June 2013 through Fool's Gold Records before physical pressings followed. Raw, loud and unapologetically aggressive, it set the template — sharp-tongued verses over El-P's industrial-strength beats — for what would become one of hip-hop's most beloved duos.
