Chaz (Jonas Thys) is a musician from Genk, Belgium, who wrote and produced Winterhard while serving as Artist in Residence at the city's C-mine cultural centre, where language and storytelling sit at the core of his work. The album was released in December 2023 through his own Studiochaz banner alongside local collective Goeie Jongens, mixed by Paulo Prietjens at Frontal Studio and mastered by Pieter De Wagter at Equus Mastering. Its release was accompanied by a photography exhibition by Saverio Sammartino, turning the record into a wider multimedia portrait of a hard-won winter.
