Squeegie Oblong, a wordsmith out of Staten Island, teamed up with Chuck Chan — beatmaker and emcee out of the Hometeam crew — for a project produced entirely by Chan. Squeegie has said the album grew out of a full beat-pack Chuck sent over: he'd planned to use just a couple of the beats, but ended up building an entire record around them as a lighter creative outlet following his 2023 LP Tanface. The Upset Antagonists title plays on MF DOOM's Madvillain, and several track titles (Dr. Claw's Journal, BeeBop's Seed) lean into 1980s cartoon-villain references, with a deep guest list including Lex Nyre, P.Genz, Zagnif Nori, Primo Jab and Doza The Drum Dealer.
