Eiland Rap Cult is a hip-hop collective out of Apeldoorn, big enough locally to fill its own annual Eiland Rap Cult Festival at venue Gigant. Mixtape Volume 1 works the way a proper crew tape should: it throws nearly two dozen members and affiliates onto one cassette, sides A and B, so newer names like Yuwno, Stibbs, Teach and Terra trade verses back and forth across posse cuts and cyphers rather than solo showcases. It is as much a scene document as it is a record, capturing the collective at a specific, unpolished moment.
