Middenweg is a hip-hop duo from Zaandam made up of rapper Marvin Adam and producer Lucas De Gier. Vrijheid (Dutch for "Freedom"), released in February 2024 as the follow-up to 2022's Vrede, Land & Cultuur, was written as the pair watched ideas of freedom feel less guaranteed — through the COVID years and wars creeping closer to home — and wanted to push back against that with music. Marvin raps with a more vulnerable, open pen than before, while Lucas pushed his production outside his usual comfort zone, and the album pulls in a wide cast of local guests, from Zaanse poets Mario Overman and Frans Reichardt to fellow rappers St.van, TimmiTjon and Rex.
