Big L was murdered in Harlem in 1999 at just 24 years old, leaving behind one of the most technically gifted catalogs in New York rap history. Released in 2025 on Mass Appeal as part of the label's "Legend Has It..." series, Harlem's Finest: Return Of The King is his fifth and final album, executive produced by Royce da 5'9" and stitching together freestyles and vocals recorded between 1992 and 1999 with guest turns from Nas, Method Man and Jay-Z. The result is a rare, career-spanning look at a rapper still widely cited as one of the most gifted punchline writers the genre has ever produced.
