Fresku (Roy Michael Reymound) grew up in Eindhoven to a Dutch mother and Curaçaoan father, and started out writing internet sketches with filmmaker Teemong before turning fully to rap in Dutch. His track "Brief Aan Kees" caught the ear of TopNotch boss Kees de Koning, landing him a deal in 2009, and this self-titled debut followed in 2010, earning him Rookie of the Year at the State Awards and a lead role in the film New Kids Turbo. It remains the record that established his sharp, socially aware and often self-deprecating style.
