Rap duo Havoc and Prodigy, aka Mobb Deep, from Queensbridge, Queens, returned in 2001 with their fifth album. After the more experimental Murda Muzik, Infamy pulled back toward Mobb Deep's dark, stripped-down street sound, and much of the attention around its release centered on the feud between Jay-Z and Prodigy: Jay-Z had attacked Prodigy on "The Takeover," and Mobb Deep answered with "Crawlin'," where Prodigy fires back calling him "H to the izz-know." Tracks like "The Learning (Burn)" featuring Big Noyd, "Kill That Nigga," and the Scott Storch-produced "Live Foul" showcase the dark beats and street-level rhymes Mobb Deep built their name on, while the R&B-inflected "Hey Luv" featuring 112 became the album's lead single and biggest crossover hit.
