Mobb Deep, the Queensbridge duo of Havoc and Prodigy, built their name on the grimy, paranoid sound of The Infamous before pushing into more polished territory on 1999's Murda Muzik. The album went platinum on the strength of singles like "Quiet Storm" and its Lil' Kim-assisted remix, with the original built around dueling samples of Grandmaster Melle Mel's "White Lines" and Smokey Robinson's "A Quiet Storm." Guest spots from Nas, Kool G Rap, Cormega and Raekwon cement it as one of the defining East Coast hardcore rap records of the era.
